Summertime Healing: Celery Juice
Few weeks ago, I read in our German monthly magazine “Natur & Heilen” (Nature & Healing) an article about celery juice and its long history as medicine. It has been grown and applied already by emperor Charlemagne (Karl der Große) and Hildegard of Bingen for a range of indications including inflamations, urinary tract infections, bloatings, stones, cramps, water retentions, poisonings, animal bites, fungal infections etc. Now, we have been drinking it every day fresh from our juicer.
The Staying Healthy Technology email from the Kundalini Research Institute featured again the health benefits of the lovely green juice. Please read everything about the Celery Juice Movement and the Celery Juice 101 with instructions and frequently asked questions, and start your fresh Celery Juice cure diet. Kindly note that this is NOT a general endorsement for the author of the above pages!
Springtime Immune Boost: Clove Water
Clove water is suggested in yoga specifically for the month of May. It has been used for centuries in traditional medicine to treat a variety of ailments. Research has shown that clove water has many benefits for the immune system, the digestive system and the skin, reducing inflammation, fighting bacteria, and improving skin tone.
Soak a handful of cloves covered in water overnight. First thing in the morning when you brush your teeth, drink 3-5 tea spoon full only. Repeat every morning through the end of May.
Here are some of the benefits of drinking clove water:
- improves digestion and relieves gas and bloating
- detoxifies the body and boosts the immune system
- good source of antioxidants, helps to protect against free radicals
- good for your skin: reduces inflammation, moisturizes, reduces wrinkles, improves skin tone & fights acne
- clears the ears, nose and throat
- helps improve your overall health

Immune Boost: Garlic and Lemon Paste
In our magazine “Natur & Heilen” (Nature & Healing), we discovered this natural immune boosting recipe with garlic and lemon:
Take 30 cloves of organic garlic and five organic, untreated lemons. Peel the garlic cloves and cut the lemons including peel in pieces to mix everything thoroughly in a blender together with some water. Then, add ca 1 liter of water and bring everything to a very short boil. Take it off the stove and let it cool down. Drink ca 2cl (one liqueur glass) daily. We keep the medicine jar in the fridge. As far as we can tell, the medicine itself smells nicely of garlic and lemon (as expected), but with the above given dosage, you won’t. Successfully tried and tested by us!
This recipe is taken from Stephen Harrod Buhner’s book Herbal Antivirals – Natural Remedies for Emerging, Resistant, and Epidemic Viral Infections, Storey Publishing, 2013. He wrote many more books with interesting titles, like: Herbal Antibiotics, Secret Teachings of Plants, Sacred Plant Medicine, The Transformational Power of Fasting.
Alternatively, you could purchase some Chyawanprash and take a spoonful of it every morning, or, if you want to be more creative, find another Ayurvedic Rasayan recipe and create your own tonic.
